How and Why We Became Innkeepers
Our guests often ask us how and why we decided to become innkeepers. Here, we share a bit about the story behind what many call the Most Beautiful Inn in Cantabria.
More than twenty years ago, Oscar and Jordi began to dream, with a lot of fantasy, about embarking on a groundbreaking life project: living and working in a natural environment far from the frenzy of the city.
The International Journey
For decades, Jordi and Oscar have been restless adventurers and avid travelers. Oscar, as an international flight attendant, has circled the globe several times, while Jordi, a high-tech international marketing professional, has lived in various cities around the world (New York, Mexico City, Madrid, San Francisco, Paris, and London);
They have been fascinated by traveling the world with their backpacks, getting to know different countries and cultures, enjoying the people, and of course, savoring the gastronomy and wines of the places they visited.
The Inspiration from Our Travels
Like creating a dish with multiple smells, flavors, and textures, we macerated the idea of making our personal life project a reality: managing a small rural hotel in Spain. We wanted a place similar to those we always sought on our travels: a spot to disconnect and relax, in direct contact with nature, offering rest and various leisure options.
The Choice of Cantabria
Cantabria runs through our veins, especially for Oscar, who was born in Santander. Jordi has always been fascinated by this land with its green landscapes, proximity to the sea, and rich cultural and natural heritage. We found a beautiful Cantabrian manor house from the late 17th century that met all the requirements of our dream.
A Place with History
Cantabria offers a unique combination of mountains and sea, charming villages, and pure nature. This setting allowed us to design a space that not only offered accommodation but an integral experience of connection with nature and rest. The selected Cantabrian manor house has a rich history. When undertaking the renovation, we respected its historical character, integrating modern elements to ensure the comfort of our guests.
Turning a Dream into Reality
The management, redesign, renovations, and relaunch of the new Posada Sierra de Ibio represented an immense challenge but also an exciting and enriching journey. The entire property needed a renovation to suit the needs of a comfortable small rural hotel. We maintained the original architecture and structures while incorporating contemporary elements for the comfort of our guests.
A Family Project
Our friends and family have been fundamental in this project, participating in transforming the manor house into the cozy rural hotel it is today. Every corner, room, and detail reflects the love and dedication we have put into this adventure.
Seven Years Later
Today, seven years later, we feel satisfied and proud of having taken that leap. Sharing our inn with our guests is one of the greatest rewards. We have hosted travelers from all over the world, sharing conversations, laughter, and moments of tranquility.
